The short parking plan
For a couple of hours at the market, head for Salling's car park on Braskensgade. The first hour is free Monday to Saturday, and on Sundays it is free all day. If it is full, the municipal car park Gåsepigen on Stengade is a good plan B at the weekend: free on Saturdays from 16:00 and all day on Sundays. To avoid paying on a weekday, there is free street parking in Vestbyen, about 15 minutes' walk from Gammeltorv.
From Friday 13 November to Wednesday 23 December, Aalborg City's Christmas market (Aalborg City Julemarked) takes place on Gammeltorv by Budolfi Church. A few huts also stand on Sallings torv in Algade and on Nytorv. The square is in the middle of the pedestrian streets, so you park a little way off and walk the last part. Your choice of car park decides whether you walk three minutes or more than 20, and whether an afternoon costs nothing or more than DKK 50.

Parking is free for part of the opening hours
Aalborg Municipality's car parks charge on weekdays 08:00-19:00 and on Saturdays 08:00-16:00. The rest of the time, and all day on Sundays, they are free. The Christmas market stays open longer than that, and you can make use of it:
- Sunday 13:00-18:00: The whole opening time is free at the municipal car parks. Salling's car park is also free all day on Sundays.
- Saturday 16:00-20:00: The last four hours are free at the municipal car parks.
- Friday 19:00-20:00: The last hour before the market closes.
Private car parks set their own prices. Friis, Budolfi Plads and Palads charge around the clock, Sundays included.
What do three hours at the Christmas market cost?
We priced the same three-hour visit on three days in December: a weekday 15:00-18:00, a Saturday 14:00-17:00 and a Sunday 14:00-17:00. Walking times are to Gammeltorv.

Free parking on a weekday: walk from Vestbyen
On weekdays, every car park and municipal space near the market charges until the market closes at 18:00. Closer to Gammeltorv, the free spaces are few, limited to 30 minutes or an hour, or reserved for disabled drivers. They don't suit a visit to the Christmas market.
The free option is in Vestbyen, west of Budolfi Church. How to pay
At the municipal car parks, such as Gåsepigen, Sauers Plads and the car park at Vesterbro 14, you can pay in FreeSpot. You pay by the minute and stop the parking when you leave. Sign in with Google, Apple or email and pay with Visa, Mastercard, Dankort or MobilePay; you do not need a Danish ID or phone number.
At private car parks you pay on the operator's own terms, shown on the signs. At Salling's car park your number plate is photographed on the way in, and you pay at the machine, in the APCOA Flow app or at apcoa.dk before you drive out.
Three things to do before you drive
- Pick your time by price. On Sundays and on Saturdays after 16:00 the municipal car parks are free, and Salling is free all day on Sundays.
- Have a plan B. Salling and Budolfi Plads are the closest. If they are full, drive on to Friis with 820 spaces or to Gåsepigen on Stengade.
- Read the signs. Prices and rules on site always apply, even if they differ from what you read here.
