Parking at Tivoli Friheden in Aarhus

A visit to Tivoli Friheden rarely lasts under two hours, and that is exactly where the choice lies: the two free hours in the yellow zone cover a short visit but not a whole afternoon. So we have two recommendations — closest, and free for the first two hours, and a guaranteed space for the long day. Street parking on Stadion Allé is about 225 m from the Tivoli Friheden entrance — a three-minute walk — and sits in the yellow zone. That means the first two hours are free, after which the rate is DKK 25 an hour. Payment applies only weekdays 8am-7pm and Saturday 8am-4pm; outside those hours there is no charge in the zone. On a Sunday or a summer evening it is usually the best space in the area — but always check the signs on the specific stretch.

For a full day in the park, or in high season when Stadion Allé fills early, Kongsvang Allé 29 is the safe choice: 300 spaces, the largest car park in the area, at DKK 10 an hour. It is about 650 m away — roughly an eight-minute walk — but the maths favours it for a long visit. Four hours costs DKK 40 on Kongsvang Allé against DKK 50 in the yellow zone, and you avoid moving the car or watching the clock. With a pushchair and tired children, though, those extra five minutes on foot are worth weighing first.

Tivoli Friheden sits on Skovbrynet at the edge of the Marselisborg woods, a few minutes' drive south of central Aarhus. The amusement park opened in 1903 and today has around 40 rides, a concert stage and a season running from spring to Christmas with Halloween and Jul i Friheden. It is hemmed in by the woods, the Atletion sports complex and the Frederiksbjerg residential area, which is why parking at Tivoli Friheden is in practice about yellow-zone street parking rather than a large car park at the gate.
